Semiahmoo Minor Lacrosse: New Referee Selection 2010

Any individual in their 12th year of age or older, is eligible to apply to become an official with Semiahmoo Minor Lacrosse. Preference will be given to the younger applicants, as they are not enticed by the part-time job market that provides so many opportunities for youth 15 years and older. It takes a good 2-3 years to train a referee to a level where they are comfortable and confident. Our objective is to train and retain our officials for the long run, so in the future, we have adequate staffing for the more difficult levels of Bantam and Midget.

With declining registration, especially at the Mini-Tyke and Tyke level, we need to utilize a process to select the small number from the applicants.

Again this year, we will require all interested to attend an information meeting at which they will be issued a Lacrosse Rulebook / Situation Handbook. They will be given 1 week to study the rules, and will be required to attend a subsequent meeting to complete a basic written test on the rules for their appropriate level.

The results of this quiz will be used to assist in the selection of this year’s new Referees.

Interested applicants should immediately e-mail Curtis Robinson (cl.rob@telus.net) with their name, age, home phone number, and any experience you may have officiating other sports. You will immediately receive a reply that I have your application. After this we will establish a date for the testing mentioned before. We will endeavour to have the selection process completed by the end of February.

Doorperson Certification

The BCLCA has developed a Door Personnel test to be completed by all people operating the door (gate) during Box Lacrosse games this season.  Coaches and managers must ensure that the test is completed and submitted with all required information.  To open the seven page course, click here and to open, complete and print-off the test, click here.

All completed and signed tests are to be faxed (604-421-9755) or e-mailed (darcy@bclacrosse.com) to Darcy Rhodes, Technical Director, BCLA.
