Novice Intermediate Team Win Bronze in New Westminster
The Semiahmoo Novice Intermediate team took home the bronze medal at the New Westminster Bellie Bowl on June 15 with a great win over the host New West Salmonbellies. The team has had an incredible year of success with only 3 losses including 2 hard fought games against New West and Surrey that were decided by one goal in the final moments of each game. The only other loss was in the Bellie Bowl tourney against the Langley Thunder who went on to win the gold medal. This year's team was comprised of 5 first year and 9 second year Novice players that played with grit and determination all season with every player scoring at least one goal. Special mention goes out to Zach Marks who proved himself to be the best Novice Int. goalie in the lower mainland. You had to see it to believe it! Thanks to everyone who made 2008 such a great season.
Bantam B Team Win Gold in Merritt
The Bantam "B" Semiahmoo squad with Coach Venables at the helm are well on their way to a great season. A first place victory in a recent tournament in Merritt, "Thunder in the Valley", kicked our season off nicely. The boys lived up to their name "Rock", because that is what they did. Two shut-out victories, back stopped by vetran goal tender Duncan Kerr, were the highlight of the tournament. The defense held the opposition to just 5 goals the entire tournament. The offensive charge led by Captain Keiran Rink did not disappoint. The boys are currently in first place in the Blue Division Bantam "B". Go Rock Go!
Midget 1 Team Win Gold in Vernon
The Midget 1 team "rocked the house" over the May 9th weekend and won gold at the Rock the House Tournament in Vernon. In their first game Friday evening Semiahmoo silenced the Langley Thunder with a score of 9-0. They flew in and landed a 10-5 victory over the North Delta Hawks early Saturday morning followed by a 2-2 tie in the afternoon against the West Kootenay Razorbacks. Sunday morning Semiahmoo came back from a 2-3 deficit at the end of the second period to take the grunt out of the Razorbacks and defeat them 8-3 to win the gold. Great tournament team!
SMLA Players Selected for Team BC
Congratulations to Reed and Griffen Leclaire on being selected to the Team B.C. Bantam lacrosse team. Tryouts were held in Victoria on April 27.
It is an honour to represent British Columbia; this accomplishment is an acknowledgement of their tremendous lacrosse skills and their dedication over the years to being the best lacrosse players they can be. SMLA is proud of the accomplishment of these fine young players.
Congratulations also to Tyson McNamara for his outstanding effort and being chosen for the Fraser Valley Zone Team during Team BC tryouts. This team captured the BC Cup Championship after outplaying teams from the Vancouver, Interior and Island zones.
