Each year, the SMLA makes provision for a bursary
to a deserving student. This program was developed to recognize
outstanding contributions to lacrosse, and to encourage and
assist in the pursuit and attainment of higher education in memory of
Alex Benson. Alex, a Grade 12 student at Elgin Park Secondary and
long time Semiahmoo/ White Rock lacrosse player passed away as a
result of a tragic accident on Friday April 23, 2004. Alex
always played at 100% with a big heart and was known for welcoming
others throughout his life. Alex’s dad, Al Benson, a former player with
the New Westminster Salmonbellies, has also devoted hundreds of hours
of coaching to Semiahmoo/White Rock lacrosse. |
